Mobile Consumer Electronics

The emerging trends in mobile consumer electronics (CE) have to tend to the increasing competition from the world of telecommunications and computing. The CE industry involves a diverse market with the combination of technological advancements in data storage, digitisation, and the ability to personalise how content is consumed. The market creates competition between players from different industries that implement distinct business models.

The ever-changing CE industry is facing a central challenge of content availability. Factors that are considered in this area include online music, mobile television (TV) and Video on Demand (VoD), personal content, uncertain broadcast, streaming, downloading and billing modes, and fixed-mobile convergence that may undermine the existence of a dedicated mobile content market.

There have been modifications made to mobile electronics resulting in Web-enabled and personal devices, with multi-function service access kiosks and standardised and interoperable portable audio and video libraries. Furthermore, the emergence of new models comes with portable device/service combinations.
